UX Law Analysis in Flipkart
Project Overview:
Project Name: UX Law Analysis in Flipkart
Role: UX Analyst
About the Project:
This project involved an in-depth analysis of the Flipkart website to assess its adherence to established UX laws. The primary goal was to identify which UX principles were being followed and which were not, thereby providing insights into the effectiveness and areas of improvement for Flipkart's user interface and experience design.
UX Laws Analyzed:
Fitts’s Law
Hick’s Law
Miller’s Law
Jakob’s Law
Law of Proximity
Law of Closure
Law of Common Region
Doherty Threshold Law
Serial Position Effect
Parkinson’s Law
Zeigarnik Effect
Aesthetic-Usability Effect
Pareto Principle
Von Restorff Effect:
Analysis Process:
Review of Flipkart's Website:
Conducted a thorough analysis of the Flipkart website, assessing the application of the aforementioned UX laws.
Focused on key areas such as navigation, product pages, checkout processes, and overall site layout.
Identification of Applied UX Laws:
Determined which UX laws were effectively applied in the design of the Flipkart website.
Noted how these laws enhanced the user experience, making the site intuitive, efficient, and visually appealing.
Identification of Missing or Misapplied UX Laws:
Identified instances where certain UX laws were either not applied or misapplied.
Documented these findings and provided recommendations for how Flipkart could better align with these principles to improve user experience.
Documentation:
Created a detailed document that recorded the analysis, including screenshots and annotations that highlighted both the strengths and areas for improvement in Flipkart’s design.
This document is available on Behance, showcasing the complete analysis process and findings.
Key Findings
Missed Opportunities:
Pareto Principle: Flipkart missed the opportunity to fully leverage the Pareto Principle in areas beyond the payment system and address management. For instance, they could have identified key user actions that drive the most engagement and focused on optimizing those elements to further enhance the user experience.
Von Restorff Effect: While Flipkart does highlight certain promotions, there are instances where they miss using the Von Restorff Effect to its full potential. For example, critical calls to action or important information could have been made more prominent to ensure they stand out among other content, thereby improving user engagement and conversion rates.
Outcome:
The analysis provided Flipkart with a clear understanding of how well their website adheres to crucial UX laws. By addressing the gaps identified, Flipkart can continue to refine their user experience, making it even more intuitive and user-friendly.
Conclusion:
This project underscored the importance of UX laws in creating effective digital products. The findings not only offered valuable insights for improving Flipkart’s website but also reinforced the significance of consistently applying UX principles in design processes to ensure optimal user experiences.
