About the Brand Name – FixNook
FixNook is a brand that embodies community spirit and proactive problem-solving. The name combines “Fix,” representing the resolution of issues, with “Nook,” suggesting a friendly and welcoming space. FixNook is envisioned as a digital corner where residents come together to address and resolve neighborhood problems, aiming to create a cleaner, safer, and happier community through collaborative efforts.
What Motivated Me to Choose This Task?
Inspired by personal experiences with common neighborhood issues, such as potholes and water line breakages, and recognizing the difficulty in reporting these problems, I embarked on the FixNook project. The goal was to develop a platform that simplifies the reporting process and fosters community collaboration. My motivation is to bridge the gap between residents and local authorities, making neighborhoods safer and more well-maintained.
Problem Statement
Residents often face maintenance issues like potholes and broken water lines, but the lack of accessible reporting channels leads to delays and deteriorating community conditions. FixNook addresses these challenges by providing a digital platform for easy reporting, monitoring, and collaborative resolution of neighborhood issues. The platform aims to connect communities with local authorities and encourage proactive neighborhood upkeep.
Design Thinking Process
The design process for FixNook follows a user-centered approach:
Empathize: Understanding user needs and challenges through secondary research.
Define: Identifying key problems and goals for the platform.
Ideate: Brainstorming solutions and design concepts.
Design: Crafting the UI and UX based on research and ideation.
Test: Validating the design with user feedback to ensure it meets expectations.
User Research
Given the tight timeline of 1.5 days, I employed secondary research methods to gather insights. This involved analyzing existing data and feedback from local residents to understand their needs and preferences. Key findings included a frustration with the lack of reporting channels and a strong desire for a community-driven maintenance solution.

FixNook is designed for:
Community Members: Individuals who want to improve their neighborhood, regardless of age or residential status.

Secondary Research
Interviews with nearby residents revealed a common frustration with reporting maintenance issues and a lack of awareness about available mobile apps for this purpose. This highlighted the need for FixNook as a solution to bridge the reporting gap and engage residents in neighborhood improvement.
